LG K51 Gestures – how to go back, close apps, get to home screen

A few years back the app drawer was removed from most of the LG smartphones following the footsteps of iOS on iPhone. This time once again the gestures mode is made the default mode of navigation just like an iPhone.

On K51, there is no back button, home button, and the recent apps button. This feels quite annoying at the beginning. I was missing the back button the most. However, once we get used to the Gestures, it makes navigation easier than the home touch buttons.

If you wish, you can restore the old style of navigation. Follow the below link to enable the Back, Home, and Overview Buttons on K51 –

Before restoring the home touch buttons, you should give at least one chance to the Gestures mode –

This brings me to the K51 home screen. You can use the back gesture anywhere on the phone. It works flawlessly.

The circular home touch button in the middle brings us to the home screen. The same thing can be done using a swipe up gesture.

You can reach the home screen from anywhere on the phone with a single swipe from the bottom edge of the screen.

This swipe up gesture brings me to the K51 Home screen. Remember, if we swipe up and hold it shows the recent apps. However, if we swipe and leave the screen it takes us to the home screen.

The gestures mode offers us an additional functionality that’s missing in the regular mode of navigation. We can switch between the recent apps.

We need to swipe along the horizontal bar at the bottom edge of the screen to switch between the running apps. The swipe can be in the left or right direction as shown above.
