To establish a successful connection between our LG K51 and PC we need to install the LG Mobile Driver. There are 5 different modes of USB connection on K51. They are Charging, Power Supply, File Transfer, Photo Transfer & Midi Device. Out of these, the most useful is the File transfer mode.
To transfer a file between phone and PC we need to install the MTP driver. Likewise, we need to install the LG K51 ADB Driver for USB Debugging (Fastboot Mode).
One more useful mode of the USB connection is the Download Mode (Firmware Update). To flash a stock firmware file on our K51, we need to install the LG USB Serial Port & LG USB Modem driver.
First of all, let’s download and install the latest LG Mobile Driver v4.5 on our computer –

LG K51 MTP / File Transfer Driver
The most frequently used USB connection mode on K51 is the File transfer mode. It is used to transfer photos, videos, and other files between the phone and computer.
Use a Micro USB cable to connect your K51 to the computer as shown above.
Look at your phone screen. We need to select the USB connection mode as “File transfer”.
To set it as the default mode of connection, hit “Always”.
On my Windows 10 PC, I get the option to import photos & videos, sync the digital media or to view the files in the file explorer.
Select “Open device to view files” to share files between the phone and PC.
There are 2 main folders, Internal Storage and SD Card.
Open a folder to view or transfer files. Let’s check the “Internal shared storage” folder.
I’m copying a screenshot file stored in the “Pictures” folder, from the phone to the computer.
We need to right-click the file and select “Copy” (or “Cut” to move the file).
Open a folder on your PC where your wish to paste this file. I’m transferring it to the “Pictures” folder on my PC.
Right-click and select “Paste” as shown above.
The file is copied from the phone to the PC. This way we can share any file between the K51 and the computer.
Our phone is visible in the device manager under “Portable Devices” as “K51”.
LG K51 ADB Drivers
After the File transfer, let’s check the ADB/Fastboot mode on LG K51. The ADB mode is used for USB debugging. Using this mode, we can write the ADB command for Bootloader Unlocking or enabling Adoptable storage on K51 (Move apps to SD card).
Let’s connect our K51 in the Fastboot mode and install the ADB Interface driver.
First of all, we need to enable USB Debugging on our K51.
Go to Settings > System > Developer Options.
If you’ve not yet enabled “Developer Options” on your K51, follow the below link to turn it on –

Tap “OK” to allow USB Debugging.
Now connect your K51 to the PC in “Charging” or “File Transfer” mode.
Wait for the ADB Interface driver to install.
On my PC, the driver is visible in the Device Manager as “LGE Mobile ADB Interface” under “Android Device”.
To write the ADB commands, we need to download & install the “Minimal ADB and Fastboot” tool.
Download the tool from the below link and install it on your computer –
Launch Minimal ADB & Fastboot tool.
It opens the cmd window.
To check the ADB connection between our phone and PC type adb devices and click enter
The connected device is visible as LMK500. However, it’s “unauthorized”.
Check your LG K51 screen.
There must be a pop-up request to “Allow USB debugging?”
Tap “Allow” to accept the request.
Once again type adb devices and tap enter.
This time the device is ready for USB debugging.
We can write ADB commands to enable Adoptable storage on LG K51. This makes the SD card as the default storage space for apps and games. Follow the below link to move apps to SD card on your K51 –
