The best thing about MetroPCS / T-Mobile phones is, their bootloaders are unlockable, and that’s the very reason their phones are the most popular among the prepaid smartphones.
LG K20 Plus is one such MetroPCS Smartphone. Once we unlock its bootloader, we can easily flash a custom recovery such as TWRP. In TWRP can easily flash Magisk or SuperSU to root our K20 plus.
“Bootloader unlock” should not be confused with SIM unlock. Your device will remain locked for other carriers even after unlocking the bootloader. Sim unlocking is an altogether different thing and needs to be dealt with in a different manner.
Now let’s proceed with the bootloader unlocking –
Before connecting your phone to the computer you should install the LG K20 USB Driver on your PC.
How to Unlock LG K20 Plus Bootloader
Before proceeding with the below procedure, we’ve to turn on “USB Debugging” and Enable “OEM unlock” within the developer options.
Once done, connect your K20 Plus to PC via USB data cable and select USB connection mode as “Charging” or “File Transfer”.
Wait for the K20 Plus ADB Interface driver to install.
If the driver installation fails, update the ADB driver manually.
You can see, the ADB Interface driver is installed successfully.
Next thing we need is Minimal ADB and Fastboot program for the PC.
shimp208@xda has done a great job by making this small and easy to use program. Earlier we had to download the whole Android SDK package with Platform Tools to run ADB commands in fastboot mode.

Install and run Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
A cmd command prompt window will open as shown above.
First of all, we’ll check whether the ADB drivers are successfully installed or not.
Type adb devices and hit enter on your computer keyboard
You can see that the connected phone is detected as LGMP260 but it’s not authorized yet.
Check your K20 plus screen, you’ll see a pop-up with the request to “Allow USB Debugging”.
Approve the USB Debugging request by hitting “OK”.
